The Department of Treasury and IRS announced in IR-2020-134 that the tax filing and payment deadline of July 15, 2020 will not be postponed. The original tax filing deadline had been postponed from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020, in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The IRS also provided that individual taxpayers unable to meet the July 15, 2020 due date can request an automatic extension of time to file until October 15, 2020. The extension provides additional time to file the tax return but is not an extension to pay any taxes due.
