The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (Bureau) released a statement and FAQs on payments and deposit rules related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Bureau encourages financial institutions to continue to assist their customers during this pandemic by waiving fees, lowering minimum balance requirements, and implementing change in account terms that benefit their customers. The Bureau’s FAQs provide guidance on how financial institutions can provide immediate relief to their customers by changing account terms without advance notice when the change is clearly favorable to a consumer by the other means outlined above.
