The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has recently updated the Form 4506 Request for Copy of Tax Return and the Form 4506-T Request for Transcript of Tax Return. The newly revised forms include a new check box and specific text in the signature section that requires the signer to attest that they have the authority to sign and request the information. There is also a new paragraph on the instructions page, highlighted with a large caution sign, which explains that the box must be checked by the signer or the form will not be processed and will be returned to the sender. There are also a few other small text changes throughout the form. This update is effective immediately.
