The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) recently announced that it extended the effective date for the policies contained within its new Single-Family Housing Policy Handbook from June 15 to September 14. The revised FHA handbook incorporates hundreds of Mortgagee Letters and other policy statements into a single handbook that will be updated in real time going forward. The FHA stated that they recognize that there are currently a number of competing initiatives occurring simultaneously in the mortgage industry that may be challenging the resources of industry participants. For this reason, FHA extended the Single-Family Handbook effective date by 90 days with the expectation that this additional time will enable mortgagees and others to be fully compliant with the new effective date.
